My 02 ws6 did this. It would not go into reverse without usung two hands took my car to get tuned and tuner said hmmm your mass air is not working. he popped hood, looked at fuses, and it was a fuse, and apparently the mass air fuse operates reverse lockout as well. so to anyone having this problem start there!

I dont even have mine hooked up on my 95 with no lights or running issues and the OP has a 96 . Iam almost 100% positive it wont throw a light or mess with anything on the engine as far as running . If you have a light i would say look for somthing eles thats causing it .

OP's car is OBD2. P1667 Reverse Inhibit Solenoid Control CKT can be thrown, I had it when I unplugged the reverse lockout solenoid.

OP, if you have a SES light for this code, just replace the reverse lockout solenoid. Or if you're pressed for time, you may be able to stick a resistor in the connector (much like a CAGS bypass). I've never done it, but it's worth a shot. Just measure the resistance of the pins on the old solenoid, then find a resistor that matches it.

It's the engine sensor fuse. Had this problem on mine for a while.
