HELP!!! T56 Popping out of fifth...
My 2002 Z28 with T56 is popping out of fifth. When you can get it in. Then once in it doesn't sound quite right. And it only pops out after the gear is selected and you let out the clutch. Then it makes a popping sound and kicks out of gear. And I can't get it into 5th from 6th unless I double clutch, I never had to do this untill it started popping.
Now some background. The car was taken in for popping out of 3rd and getting stuck in forth before. They replaced the 3-4 synchro and it was fine. This was with only 6K on the car. Now I have 20k. I took it in before winter and they blamed my Ripper and said to put the stock shifter back in. I say !!!
So what should I do? What can I say to them to fix this thing once and for all? I only have one year left on the warr. and am in dire need of a clutch. Any feedback appreciated.
Thanks!

Sounds like the 5-6 set has gone bad. One of my trannies did that (I couldn't go from 6th to 5th without double clutching). When I took it apart, I found that the slider engagement teeth for both gears were shot.
It could be as simple as a broken plastic fork pad, but if it's gone on for a while, it's probably worn out internal parts. Put the stock shifter back on (just to play their game), and then take it in again. It's not the shifter.

I also had a problem with going into 5th from 6th. Just in case you didn't see this.

Thanks guys! I am going to put the stocker back in as well as most of my other bolt-ons. They gave me crap about my mods and racing and almost didn't fix it. I hope they fix it once and for all, or that it lasts a couple years since I am getting a clutch once they fix it. I did several searches on the topic and found similar issues, but most of them where out of warr. and were going to trans shops.
Thanks again!
P.S. If anyone else had this prob. and wants to post there results here I would appreciate it.
