Default 3/4 shift fork install?

Well I have my trans pulled and I am receiving my parts today. I'm thinking of trying this myself. I have the t56 rebuild book and tools nessacery. I'm only changing 3/4 fork ,pads, and keys. Also changing 1/2 pads, keys and shift cup. This would be my first trans. Would this be a difficult task? Thanks

Yes, I've read the stickie and have done multiple searches. I really wanted to know how far I would have to break down the tranny or could the fork be replaced without disassembling the gears

That is a pretty in depth job, the case will have to come off and would your way down to the 3-4 and 1-2 sets.

If you're replacing the keys you are tearing it down to a bare mainshaft. The 1-3 gears are coming off to get to the synchro assy's. At this point, why aren't you replacing the blocking rings? You are essentially rebuilding the whole trans but not replacing the most commonly worn parts? I would highly recomend getting new blocking rings while you are in it that far.

Mike's got it. If you're replacing keys like you mentioned, you are going to have to take everything off the mainshaft to get there. If you're doing all that work, might as well do it right with new parts if old ones are worn. Wait until you've torn down everything to order parts, though. Usually you find that there's more to replace than you originally thought, and it really stinks having everything ready to start rebuilding and finding out you need to order more parts.
