Default Do I REALLY need a Mcleaud twin disc?

I need a clutch that can handle about 800hp for now, but it would be nice if it held 1000+ for a little while for later down the road.

I know the mcleaud is the best way to go but I could buy two spec stage 5s for the price of one mcleaud. The spec is rated at stage 5 - 1050-1300 ft lbs tq capacity - 4000 psi pressure plate This theoretically should do the trick, so why spend twice as much on a mcleaud? What is the rating for the street twin??

Opinions?

Do you want a Twin set-up? Yes DO YOU NEED A TWIN-SET UP? Absolutely.

The SPEC (I believe) does not come with a new fly-wheel. The McLeod does.

Both have their strong points. Many run either, depending on their own preferrence.

I had a single disk McLeod for 2 years. Held up very well, 350+ 1/4 passes. Recently replaced it with the Twins. I will not be approaching your hp, but there is a saying "you pay for what you get".

I have had good luck with spec on my v6 I run a stg 4 on it. Plus if it can handle what they say it can then its enough for my goal. So again why spend twice as much? I don' tneed a new flywheel I can just resurface the stock one. I will upgrade hydraulics as well but it still wont come up to the price of the street twin...

I would really love to run the ST but again, the price is a little out there...
I could live with a little chattter to save 500 bucks.

has anyone ever broken a ST or broken a stg 5 ?

anyone else care to put in their .02 cents?

The ST can be slipped somewhat, any of the spec clutches past stage 2 catter like mad when you try to slip them.

Few people need them, but when you add up a new flywheel, master cylinder, and the clutch the other clutches don't have as large of a price advantage as it seems at first. I got a good deal on one which made the decision even easier.

Your paying for streetability on the twin. We put one in my brothers 84 6 spd convo and even though it grabs like a sonofa, the pedal is fairly light.. and it doesn't have much chatter at all.

BTW: LonSlo on this board is selling a stage 4 for like $300ish with only a few hundred miles on it, he shipped it back to spec and even had them look at it. Comes with flywheel and all, a pretty nice deal.
