Question Hurst Short Shifter

A few minutes ago I was informed that my car came with a Hurst Short shifter, but the shifter itself isn't... short. I heard its possible to shorten it inside? Is this easy to do? Do I have to buy a shorter shifter rod? I have a 2001 SS Camaro 6 Speed Manual with SLP
