Default Pontiac engine to T56 trans

Ok I'm tired of the good ole "corperate" engine in my 93 T/A so I'm going to put in a real pontiac engine in it. Now the question I have is can my T56 be hooked up to a pontiac engine? I know alot of you are thinking I'm nuts but correctly done a true pontiac engine is really hard to beat. The torque they make is out of this world!!!!! Plus a Chevy should have a chevy engine and a Pontiac should have a pontiac engine. FYI no I'm not getting rid of the engine because it's the numbers matching engine. I've been building poncho's for 30+ yrs now.

I'd change the input shaft out for the Ls1 style, chop off the bearing retainer and bolt on the adapter plate that allows you to use the BOP 4 speed passenger car bell housing.
