id say power shift at track only!
you dont need to double clutch
and granny shifting is shifting at low rpm...

Double clutching is hard to explain on the internet....much better if someone who knows how to shows you first hand, cuz I don't wanna feel responsible for you having to get a new trans next week. And since you don't have a crash box, you really don't need to be doing it.....it's just kinda cool to do now and then. And granny shifting is shifting slow/low rpm's (out of the powerband).

If you powershift that stock t-56, be prepared to ask santa for another one soon. I should know.........

Ya I'd say power shift at the track only & make sure you get the right gear!

Powershifting is a sure way to kill your tranny. I only do it on 1st - 2nd shift at the track only. I used to powershift a lot until I had to pay to rebuild my T56!!

i don't see how powershifting, done well, hurts the transmission? i can't see it being any different than a non-powershift with the same throttle. just because you are going into gear slower doesn't mean it's better for the car...

ya, if you miss gears it makes a difference, but if you are powershifting correctly, why is it bad for the tranny?

i've been beating on my tranny in my 94 since i bought it, powershift every weekend at the track, and every pass. just now had to tear it down for a twisted outout shaft.. i've been runnin the stock tranny with 100k on it for almost 3 years now, so i think if powershifting is done right it is hard on them but if it is done wrong, it is very hard on them...

I believe the LT1 T56s had better internals then the newer ones...weren't the older ones built by Borg-warner instead of Tremec, or is it the other way around?

older ones were berg warner, newer ones tremec.

but i still don't understand how powershifting is harder? think about it...if you are flooring your car up to ~6k rpms, letting off the gas completely, shifting, then punching in when you have it in gear, your tranny is getting a beating because of the high rpms. now when you do the same, only you never let off the gas pedal, the rpms are not increasing by much, and the tranny is still getting the high rpm wear that it would shifting normally under heavy load. how is the former better than the latter?

The LT1 t-56's are a night and day difference in terms of reliability compared to the LS1 t-56. In short: Borg Warner was the ****....tremec products kinda suck...they took a good tranny and managed to turn it into a P.O.S.

You will see a lot more LT1 M6 f-bodies in the 9's than the LS1 variety....the reason...they take a lot more abuse....LS1 owners simply swap out to a built auto.

I powershift my T56 equipped LT1 at the trak and on the street. I wouldnt suggest it to newbies. I've been driving sticks since I was 13 and racing at the track since i was 17. I can powershift with the best of them. If done correctly rpm's should only peak ever so slighty. It basically comes down to how fast you can kick the clutch in and put it in the next gear. There are techniques that will make you learn faster. Not gonna give them away though Although a succesful poweshift may not "blow up" the trans or show any immediate harm, I do still believe it will effect long term durability. it is just more strain on everything. If done right though, the trans should still last a long time, just not longer then if you never powershift. Also try to change trans fluid atleast about once every year or two. I use Redline MTL. works awesome.

I powershift mine at the track only, mostly because my car blows my eagle f1's away anyway, so im sure powershifting on them would just make it worse. It does help alot at the track on ET streets though. RPMs hardly drop between shifts when you do it right. Also, 98 t-56s were the last by borg warner. 99 up have the tremec's. I believe that borg warners hold up better just because Ive seen my buddy already rebuild his 00 tremec t-56 and I've been harder on mine than he has, and mine is doing fine with 55k on it ::knock on wood::
