Default 2nd to 1st

Had the car out tonight and I was shifting from 2nd to third at 6200 and thr rear end started hopping and it seemed to lock up, so I instantly pushed the clutch in and the ABS, trac, and brake light stayed lit. My buddy was with me and he said the RPMs didnt go up any when it happended. It all happened so fast Idont know whether I went from 2nd to 1st or floored the bake instead of the gas. I shut the car off and started back up and the lights went off. There is no excessive noise in the rear, trans, or motor. Everything seems fine and still runs strong. Has this ever happened to anyone before. I know how to drive the car well, I had sticks all my life. Is it possible that powershifting into third loked up the rear instead of boke the tires loose. Never had anthing like this happen before.

Well if nothing seems to be hurt, dont do that again! J/K
It must have been 1st if it just locked the rear. Ouch!!!
Maybe it's time to get a shifter???

Does your engine make any ticking noise? Any SES light? If the engine sounds good and there is no ticking noise, you are ok. The worst thing that can happen from missing the 2nd - 3rd shift is smacking a valve and bending your pushrods. This will cause your engine to make ticking noise and possibly throw an SES light. Most of the time the pushrods just get bent and they are easy to replace.

there was always a faint ticking noise, but I don't think It got any louder. The exhaust note sounds a little funny thouogh. So when the pushrods are bent because a piston hits a valve? If that is the case is their further damage? I am getting LT's and a comp cam 224 581 and dyno tune at LS1speed on sat.

you should be fine, i'd say it was most definetly a 2nd to 1st shift, lock rear wheel, and that will turn on all 3 lights till you shut the car off. just be glad the revs didnt go up and bend valves or push rods on ya, alot of peopel have it happen at the track . youd hear it if ya did though

I think I'm safe. I talked to my buddy who had a 92 Vette 6sp and he said that he let another buddy drive his car and he did the same thing except that the car started to spin and the guy, a mustang owner, did't realize what he did. He said that a 2 to 1 isn't as bad as a 3 to 2 because the engine speed is a lot less and the rear end basicaly slowes it down faster than it can over rev. His car stayed in first until they stopped and his motor was fine. If its only a pushrod its no biggie because I am getting a cam installed at LS1speed on Sat. Thanks for the input ir really scared the **** out of me.
