Default Shifter Gasket - Will This Work?

I have a roll of adhesive backed "Weather-Resistant Neoprene/EPDM/SBR Foam" and am thinking about using it as a gasket between the shifter and transmission (pulling it today). Go to McMaster.com and enter this PN to see what I'm talking about, 8694K16.

Do you think this will work fine with the trans fluid? Its a closed cell foam and very compressible with moderate rebound.

I'm thinking of using it as a seal for my fuel pump trap door too.

See if you can determine what material is used to make the black foam GM transmission pan gaskets.

Because if you dont want it to leak RTV works better. The temp range on that foam is only 150deg max.

RTV is the way to go. Ive used it more times than I can count, and never had a single leak.

i took a piece of silicone gasket material that was about 1/16" thick and cut my own gasket to put there.....seals it really nicely, and even helps to absorb some vibration, too. best of all, it was free from my old job!
