New Clutch, flywheel setup - help please (McLeod burned out)
I am in the process of replacing a McLeod RST dual disc clutch on a 600 RWHP setup (1988 Olds Cutlass LS2). The clutch had less than 3,000 miles when it failed (only street tires – never slicks). Clutch shows signs of warping and premature wear; McLeod flywheel has hairline crack also. Installation was done properly and by a reputable speed shop.
INCREDIBLY disappointed the McLeod failed so soon – over $1,000 in parts alone.
Any recommendations would be appreciated. Am looking to go to a single plate setup, perhaps the Monster Level 3? Would you go with the lighter flywheel as well (18# rather than 28#)? The car is about 4,000 pounds, so this may be a factor as well it is a weekend warrior.
Lastly (and thanks for your help!) is if you could provide any recommendations for a scatter shield for the T56 behind the new clutch and 800hp motor?
I'm pretty new to using this blog (although a member for a while), so am very appreciative for any input.
Thanks!

Have you contacted McLeod about this? They may able able to help assess the issue and work with you to find a resolution? As most can attest, if there is a problem, there is also a cause!

There are lots of options that will hold his output...but it's best to contact the provider of the part first. I would appreciate you contacting me if it was relative to one of our units. Let me know if you need something else Hem and I will be happy to assist you!
