Default Do I need to lube the trans input spline?

I'm installing a new RAM clutch in my '99 and noticed that the trans input shaft had some rust on it where the clutch disc slides. I'm wondering if I should use a small amount of lube to keep it from rusting so the clutch disc slides freely.
Any thoughts, suggestions?

Another question I have concerns the throwout bearing. It looks like the big spring on the bearing keeps it in constant contact with the pressure plate fingers. Am I seeing this correctly? Can someone explain to me how this works? This sure looks different than my old '67?

Thanks alot,
John

I was doing a quick search looking for this exact same answer, only to see no one responded...do the splines require lube? Should you us a dry powder lube?

Its not required but I usually apply a super light coat of grease to the tip of the input shaft and the clutch splines. If you put too much, it will sling off and get on the clutch disc ruining it.
