Default 04 gto m6 shifter feels really loose

Hello everybody, so I recently picked up a 04 GTO m6 but when shifting it feels reallllly loose. Like I will be shifting gears and it slides right in without any forse at all, it seems to feel "loose" I have no idea what could be causing this at all. My knowledge level is low. Other symptoms is that when I go into reverse it again slides into place with little to no effort but doesnt really "catch" Ill start rolling backwards but when I go to give it gas has I hear like a whining noise and no power goes to the wheels, then Ill reshift untill it "catches". Any imput would be great. I am totally freaking out thinking my new car is quickly becomming a "lemon"

It almost sounds like you have a dream t56 lol most of the time they are notchy and noisy so most people would kill to have one that just slips into gear lol. but on a serious not check out the shifter on the car, the 04 gtos were famous for their crappy stock shifter. if its not popping out of gear or grindning then most likely its not the transmission

Default Rowing Gears

GTO's 04-06 all had really poor shifters in them the stock shift **** goes down into a metal tube with rubber surrounding it, really "smart". How many miles are on it? Last fluid flush? daily driver or track car?

Yep the GTO stock shifters had an incredibly sloppy feel even when brand new. The fbody Hurst was incomparably better.
