Borg Warner 6 speed?
Borg Warner 6 speed? When did the switch to Tremec happen? I was looking over my tranny today and noticed it was a BW unit and its a 01, I pulled my dads out today also for something and his was a Tremec in his 02. I had my tranny replaced under warrenty a little bit ago and it was supposed to be a brand new tranny, but it looks like it came from a junk yard. It has that normal "OK" written on it in a paint pen that you see at a yard. Didnt they stop using BW trannies in the 90s?
99 and newer were Tremec (stamped as such on the side of the main case).
Honestly, there's not a whole lot of difference between the two. The mainshaft on my '98s tranny wore out at the 5-6 driven gear part. Nope, that part wasn't any higher quality. Maybe the metals used were different, but otherwise, I challenge you to show me a difference internally other than the synchro blocker ring pad material.

Yup, I see - it does indeed sound like you either got a junkyard unit, or a "remanufactured" unit, but not a new unit. Probably too late now to do anything to the shop that did the work, but a couple of phone calls wouldn't hurt...

Verdad Gallardo I know when we got some shoddy work done at the local Pontiac dealership on my wife's minivan, our insurance company (who paid for the work) really went to bat for us to get things fixed "closer to right". The minivan didn't turn out perfect (certainly not $8k in work "perfect"), but at least the paint isn't peeling off any more.
Anyhow, I would place a phone call to the warranty company - GM or otherwise. Don't ask for anything, just let them know what you found, let them know they paid for a new tranny, and that you got a used one. Ya never know where it might lead.

BW can take a hellofalotta more abuse than the tremec POS. Be thankful that you have a BW. They are much more reliable when it comes to big power. Lots of LT1 guys have no problems what so ever with their transmissions
I like the Borg Werner Units better. I have had 2 98 6 speeds and have had no problems with either. Maybe its just me but I drove a few of my friends 99s and 2001s and I think the BW shifts a little smoother.
