Default Stock Shifter Question

I have a '98 SS w/46k that I have noticed alot of play in 2nd gear. After I shift into 2nd gear I can feel play in the shifter, I can move it over an inch forward and back when in gear. If I let go of the shifter I can see it move forward. I don't see the issue in any other gear. I have had no issues shifting into any gears or slipping out of gear, no grinding observed either. I'm wondering if this is a sign of a problem to come. Everything is stock except for a Tick master & slave cylinders which I replaced 3 years ago. I replace the hydraulic fluid and bleed the system every year.

The stock shifter is junk. There is a rubber bushing in the bottom of the handle that bolts to the shifter base. This is what lets it move around so much.
