What split plates are needed for proper T56 teardown??

Default What split plates are needed for proper T56 teardown??

Looks like Kent Moore has 3 or 4 split pates for the 56

Which ones do I need?

I'm not sure of the exact sizes or part numbers, but they're really only needed when changing the input shaft and/or countershaft bearings. Most T56 rebuilds go,through without needing new bearings and if you're not rebuilding a lot, it's cheaper,easier just to find a local shop R&R the bearings for you IMHO...

Mike, I've got the press here in the shop

you do bring up a good point, "is bearing replacement needed?"

I have one OTC splitter I use w/ a press. A medium to large one will help you do the necessary work on the counter extension, and the 3-4 synchro and the 1-2 synchro.

If the bearings don't look damaged at all I'd just leave them where they are. There is only one press fit that you have to remove for tear down anyway and it can be removed with a 2/3 jaw puller. By using the old bearings you can get away with not using overly tight preload to compensate for the bearings loosening up.
