Need transmission help pleaseeee On my 98 camaro I am installing the t56 i just had rebuilt and can't get it to slide into pilot bearing, there is about an inch gap between motor and trans and I worked on it for about 3 hours trying to get it in and it just won't go. Can anyone tell me why?

Is it the same "inch" out all the way around the mating surface? Did you use a clutch alignment tool? It's important to use the tool, tighten the pressure plate bolts, and slide the transmission all the way in at the correct angle. The weight of the trans is enough to pull the clutch down, but you won't be able to force it back up with the weight of the trans too.
Sometimes you can cheat and press the clutch pedal to release pressure on the clutch and allow it to move. Be ware that the trans will try to move back as well.

Did you change the pilot bearing? There are 2 different types, one sits further in the crank register which is the one you need and one sits in another register of the crank and will not let the transmission slide in completely.

thanks guys i got the trans in but now im having a problem bleeding the clutch the clutch pedal will not return back from the floor and the fluid in the master cylinder does not go down or no air bubbles come out of it can anyone help me with this problem im bout ready to sell the car lol
If you have the disc aligned and are still having issue getting the trans on then you should open the bleeder on the slave and released the risidual pressure on the bearing. The slave/bearing can easily prohibit the transmission from sliding into place. If you pull the transmission down with bolts you can easily damage the disc and/or the pressure plate. The in turn can affect function and performance. Did you pull the trans down with bolts?
