Ill be installing my spec stage 3 w/ the steel billet flywheel and new slave tommorow and ill be changing the trans fluid too. I was wonderin if it was ok to put 3 quarts of motorcraft mercon dexron III and 1 quart of gm syncro mesh? and any tips b4 I install the clutch would be great. already did the drill mod. Thanks in advanced.

If your T-56 that you have in your car is an '02 model, then I'd suggest just putting in what the factory put in there - Mobil-1 synthetic.

In case of the 01+ T-56's, I think the best thing to do is look at both your manual and on the actual T-56 itself, and see what they say to use - they should say the same thing, and use that, since (I think) they were filled with synthetic Mobil-1 ATF.

I believe, but have not verified (you should do this before you go and buy it) that Mobil-1 ATF (which is synthetic) is approved for whatever your manual/T-56 states to use.

More exotic fluids are Royal Purple Synchromax, Redline D4 ATF, and Redline MTL - there is debate on all of these on whether or not they are worth it to use in any year of F-body that have T-56's, and if they are OK to use. (the D4 should be OK, it's rated Dexron III and is an ATF weight).

I can't imagine doing all that work, and then using a sub-optimal fluid (compared to what even the factory put in there) to re-fill it...just doesn't make sense to me....

Good luck, there is lots of info out there on this!

Thanks for the info Chuck, But I dont think my 02 z came w/ synthetic trans fluid. On the tranny it says dexron III. I just wanted to know if it was alright to mix one quart of gm syncro mesh w/ the 3 quarts of dexron.

I would not recommend mixing the GM Synchromesh with Dexron III.

Just use 4 quarts of Dexron III

or you could do your transmission a favor and use the Royal Purple Synchromax.
