Ok, I did a little searching but am still a little confused on this.
After figuring out today that the T56 I purchased with my LS1 (out of a 2004 GTO) is from a 94-95 Firebird/Camaro I am pretty frustrated.
I have read that the LT1 t56 has a shorter input shaft because of the different hydraulic set up for the clutch and so you cannot use the LT1 t56 with an LS1 without changing more stuff than is worth it.
However, if I go ahead and use the LT1 style hydraulics (standard TOB instead of the LS1 hydraulic TOB) can I use this trans with my LS1? I put my clutch disk onto the input shaft and the splines are a perfect match.

no.. I'm in the middle of this myself. the problem is the crank on a ls1 is shorter then a lt1 so the input shaft of a lt1 t56 wont "reach" the ls1 crank. Only way to run that tranny with a ls1 is to change the input shaft, front plate and bellhousing
also make sure that the tranny is from a 94-95 cause a 93 can't be converted to a ls1 t56

I looked up the part number and mine is from a 94/95. I would much rather just sell this and buy a t56 that will bolt right up to my motor but I cant post in the classifieds because of the stupid 50 post rule! ARGH
Any ideas on a good place to find the parts I would need to covert it?

Are you sure I can't use a standard LS1 trans with my motor? That would make things a lot easier since the parts are a lot easier to come by. The drivetrain is NOT going in a GTO.
Also any other forums that would be good to sell my current t56?

Ok great. I already have a monster stage 3 clutch/flywheel that is for an fbody and do not have a starter or bellhousing at all yet. I will look for an fbody trans and then buy the body starter. That should be the least expensive rout right? And the difference in shifter position is just 4in so that should be easy to compensate for either way.
