how much lash from output shaft

how much lash from output shaft I got am 04 cts v with a t56 in. Was curious how much lash there should be on the output shaft.. i am chasing a horrible clunk when letting the clutch out and am thinking its either too much lash in the trans or the clutch has broken springs in the friction disk or the pp or fw is warped.
