Ok, here is the situation. I drift an E36 BMW and will be swapping in an LS1/t56 over the winter. I have a 2001 camaro ss donor that grinds into third gear. Sometimes goes in sometimes not. I have not driven the car very far as it's in poor physical condition (accident). It has 142k on it.
I want to know if I can rebuild this myself. I have no internal RWD transmission experience, but have built several street cars, a rock buggy, and three full race cars. All of which I performed all the work and fabrication in my garage. I have modified and installed LSD, Gears, etc on some FWD trans.
My friend just finished school as a diesel mechanic and works for the Fire Dept. We are both authentic motor heads, not just some yuppie parts swappers.
Is this doable in my garage?
What specialty tools will I need?
My reasoning is that if I do it, I can afford better parts!
Thanks, and this is my 1st post.
( I have a maggied 05 CTS-V also)

if you have access to a press and have the appropriate jaw pullers you should be able to tackle this in your garage. Stay very organized, heres a link to download the service manual

just remember to measure your clearances correctly and use appropriate shims.

i was going to attempt to do mine myself as i've done bike transmissions and atvs etc but mine was completly apart in a tote i ended up buying a built one. If it was already together and i took it apart i would try it my self. Kinda intimidating when its in 1,000 pieces in a box though lol.
