All depends on what you want. "Built" can mean a whole lot of things.

Check out http://www.texasdrivetrainperformance.com/index.html They have very reasonably priced performance builds, including shipping. It is pretty expensive to have a local shop do the whole thing, I was quoted at 2350. If you're in the midwest there's a guy in Milwaukee that specializes in t56 builds as well. But it all depends on what kind of power you're planning on putting through the trans.

I just checked those guys out, $1,380 for a level 3 build seems cheap?
I wonder what the TQ ratings are on these levels?

We actually offer a lot more upgrades than listed on the website. Updates are coming soon. But its $1530 for the Stg3 w/ all upgrades. That is cheaper than any other builder (maybe I should raise prices ) lol

But to the OP, a built T56 outright is quite expensive. I sell them for anywhere from $2200-2800 depending on the build of that unit, and whether its an LT1 or LS1 style. We actually have a few units in stock ready to build now.
A fav is the Z06-internals but in an f-body case, aka GTO T56. email me for details...in sig

I love my Texas Drivetrain trans and would do business with them again. Stage two was plenty for me and it shifts so much better now(maybe its just from a worn out trans to a new one but either way I am happy).
