Default T56 rebuild

So I've got my transmission out while the engine is in the machine shop so I was wondering what yalls opinions/experience of the stage 2 rebuild. I was thinking of ordering it from thegearbox.org. It seems like its the most complete kit at a good price. I've been inside a auto before without problems so how hard would yall say it is to install it yourself? Any and all opinions are apreciated.

Stage 2 meaning what? each shop has their own version of what they think a stage 2 is.

install time varies, if your alone it might take you awhile without a lift.

I am going to attempt this also on my 06 gto t56. i've done tons of reading and it looks pretty simple for someone with basic mechanical knowledge. I have to go a little further as i'm replacing the broken mainshaft. I would figure out what parts you want to upgrade and order the parts separate. good luck on the rebuild

Well I want to install it myself to save some money and gain some knowledge. The trans came out in working order with no noises and I found the stage 2 kit on thegearbox.org which includes this

Upgraded 1-6 carbon fiber/kevlar blocker / synchronizer rings
Reverse synchronizer ring
Bronze fork pads for the 1-2 & 3-4
Billet keys for the 3-4 with upgraded springs
Billet keys for the 1-2 with upgraded springs
Bronze shifter bushing / isolator cup
1-2 synchronizer assembly
3-4 synchronizer assembly
Snap ring kit
3-4 steel shift fork
Stock 5-6 & reverse fork pads
Stock 5-6 & reverse keys & springs
front & rear seals
T56 transmission exploded view

I continued looking around and this kit came with the most parts for the money and I don't know how this kit compares to a shops trans package. The trans is already out of the car so thats taken care of. The parts get here today so ill probably get a jump on it today. Forcepower I don't know if you've seen but if your having problems with the stock main shaft dd performance offers an upgraded 30 spline kit for around 600. Get that along with a stage 2 parts kit and its a put together stage 3. That's what I plan on doing.

I cant do the 30 spline upgrade, something about gearing being different. I guess you cant do this with the gto t-56. I live local to d&d and discussed this upgrade with them.

Huh, that sucks. Wonder if you could get the ssr t56 main shaft to work. Don't know the gearing for that but I do know its a 32 spline axle. May be stronger than the viper main shaft. I got the kit today, first thing I said was wow I feel like I got jipped. Everything is so small and complicated looking. Can't be any more difficult than a 700r4

If you've done an auto before you will be fine. It is pretty straightforward; just use the free pdf manual you can get online and follow a right up from on here for extra insurance. I'd never rebuilt anything in my life and I did mine last winter. Got my stuff from thegearbox.org too.

Thanks for the encouragement. And I already downloaded the pdf. I see you have the monster stage 2. How do you like that clutch. I've got a ls6 clutch right now but after I get my rearend I was thinking about upgrading to the monster stage 3. Heavy pedal or anything
