Did you put in a new pilot bearing? If so did you make sure it was the right one? Any time I have ever put in a new pilot bearing i make sure it goes over the input shaft before installing it. Just an idea to check next time you are messing with it.

I have never had a manual tranny "slip right in". You will have to slightly jiggle/work it in.

That's the crazy part! I've had to change my rear main before and the trans slipped right back in with any bs wiggling and I've assured several people with their clutch swap. But I have buddy giving a hand after work tonight. Hopefully we get it in.

Try to re-align everything and go again...

They can be tricky sometimes

Well me and my bud tried the whole thing over again. (he's done clutch swaps on his TA)
Made the alignment tool was and still will not go in. I know things can be stuborn but this is absolutely ridiculous! Once again is came less than an in of going in all the way and thats all it went.

It simply wont go in.

They can be a bit stubborn. If you put the bolts in and give a few turns is it moving in or just getting tight? I am not recommending forcing by torque but a few turns should not hurt. if it frees it up to slip in the last bit. You are sure the new clutch and pressure plate fit inside your bell housing? Is it exact replacement or aftermarket?

Stubborn isnt the word. I've tried everything from mocking it up to taking the thing off and starting from scratch many times. Its a stock t56 and bell housing. The bell housing goes on with out a problem. All I can conclude is that perhaps the way I have it up on my stands wont allow for the right angle. Either way I done dealing with it. It's going to a shop here soon.

So got the GM tech to take a look at the install and the verdict was a damaged pilot bearing. So that was swapped out and the tranny was installed in a matter of minutes. Should be finishing up tomorrow and its back on the road.

None taken. I'm sure that's what happened. Used a different install method the second time around.
