Default Ford TKO500

Can I use a Ford TKO500 on my LS 4.8 ? I know the Bellhousing and Input shaft would need to change but what else ? I found one the needs a couple of gears replaced for cheap and I like to know if its worth it !

IMO you would be better off finding a rebuilt used T56.

Why ? I read that the TKO's are lighter and just better but that might be the advertising !

I would assume Ford since it was on a Mustang.

You will need to swap the input, bearing retainer and bell. You will need a later GM bell to get the correct trans pattern..../ to avoid swapping trans cases.
That advertising was certainly from someone peddling TKO's.

Yeah, I think I'm almost set to get a T56. I just found those few TKO's for cheap(1 in TX had a cracked case but the seller said obo for $500 he just wanted it gone) and started thinking though having a 5 sp turbo car wouldn't be bad with longer gears.

OK, I completely scapped the idea ! Aside from changing main shaft, input shaft and bearing, the bellhousing bolt pattern is the killer from making it possible(not that the is no adapter plate somewhere). Just too much to make work plus the cost is not for me...T56 here I come !!!

Option 2 :
Where can I buy a case for a t56 fairly cheap ?

A 4.3 V6 Astro Van bell has both ford and gm bosses for trans. I think the internal dimensions are the same as a 621. That's the only one I know of that has the correct depth for the GM input shaft and will bolt to a ford TKO and should fit an LS flywheel/clutch. Just not an easy item to find.

I called Modern Driveline and they have the parts to make a Ford TKO and 3550 work And its fairly cheap $150 without shipping. The TKO I was interested in had a cranked case(from installation), Modern Driveline sells the case for $220. We had a long talk about the 1st gear(3.27) in those tranny's and its rather undesireable for me with a turbo setup.
