Default T56 trans am

I'm having issues. Shifter won't go into 5th at all. Forcing it I hear slight grinding, but no issues in any other gear other than 6th is a little whiney.
I had a guy tell me it could be the clutch, but it won't go in 5th even in the driveway with engine off. Possible shift fork problem ? Should I rebuild it or buy a new one and sell mine, I see t56 magnums for 3 grand, I'm sure I could sell mine for 800$ to make up some costs.

Broken blocker or something it's internal. You'll pay anywhere from $700-1500 to have it rebuilt/upgraded. I'd do that before a magnum.

I was only worried about the down time, I can swap the tranny myself, but have send it out for the rebuild. I wish there was someone local who knew t56 s but I can't find anyone.

i'm going to rebuild my t56,thats not the hard part. shimming it and setting the end play so the gears mesh correctly, so your trans doesn't fail is the hardest part.

If it's a 5-6 synchro issue you can fix it without removing the tranny from the car. You can take the tailshaft housing off and work on the synchro assembly in the car. If this is the only issue with the tranny I would do this first. You may be able to fix it for a very minimal cost going this route. If you get the tailshaft housing off and it something farther in the tranny you didn't losing anything by trying, this you are just a little closer to getting the tranny out.
