Clutch install
1. Do I need to take the whole bellhousing off to replace the clutch, or can I get by with just pulling the tranny.
2. Would it be easier to pull the bellhousing, and if so how? It looks nearly impossible.
3. It says that I have to have the flywheel milled and balanced with the clutch, how hard is this, and how much does it usually cost to get done?
4. It came with the slave cylinder spacer, I have heard that this is a bad idea, pretty much putting a pre-load on the throwout bearing. Is it better to wait and get an adjustable master or can I go ahead and put the spacer in?
I think that is about it for now, if there is anything else you guys could tell me that would make this go smoother, I would appreciate it.
Thanks
Nick
You should resurface and balance the flywheel with the new pressure plate and clutch. In order to get the flywheel off the bellhousing has to come off as well. Once the transmission is out, the bellhousing really isn't that hard, just some bolts at funny angles. You may need a large screwdriver or a medium prybar to get it to free from the block, but again, its not all that bad.
And the slave shim is there if you have a resurfaced flywheel... So yes, you will need it if you resurface the flywheel. It's guys that don't resurface their flywheels and install the shim that have trouble.
