Default how bad does spec 3 chatter when first installed?

I am used to letting out the clutch with no gas and no chatter.

If I do it with my newly installed spec III it chatters HARD. normal or pop back under and bleed the clutch some more?

with a sticky clutch, you're gonna need to give it some gas when you take off to avoid the chattering.

Also, the clutch will get a little less agressive after breakin.

I Put my Spec Stage 3 in about a month ago, it was bad for the first 300 miles, then it would hardly chatter, now with 700 miles on it almost feels like a stock clutch! I have 10 runs at the track on it and it works awsome .

Installed my Stage 3 X-Pad a few weeks ago....

Initially, I thought it was gunna be a nightmare!!

Everytime I let out from a dig, I keep looking in the rearview mirror to see if any parts have fallen off....
It's been about 1800+ miles since the install (less then half of that being in heavy traffic) and most of the chatter is gone, but it's still noticable.....

Thing is, I have yet to beat on it (no launches or speedshifts)....

People say it will go away after my first hard dump, but I'm gunna try to baby it until i hit 3k

spec has a proper break in procedre that comes with their clutches...and they even tell you it is normal for it to chatter for the first couple of hundered miles of break in time...

yeah. mY spec chatters too. 300 miles on it so far. But its nothing untolerable. after 500 miles just do a few launches and it will smooth right out!

Question

How many of you actually used the supplied shim?

The guys over at ESP (where I bought the clutch) said that they never use the shims for any of their installs and said it wasn't necessary...

However, the instruction page said it was necessary for proper disengagement, so I gave ESP another call and they said to go ahead and install it....

I did and so far, the engagement point feels great, but I'm worried about how it will feel after the clutch wears down....

I remember many that had the old McLeod clutches would install shims and have to re-shim it every few thousand miles just for the clutch to disengage

Definitely sumthin I DON'T wanna go through.....

Yes, I used the shim supplied. Why would you not when the Spec instructions say to?

i put the shim in and a local shop here that installs a lot of specs says they allways put them in. they told me they didn't on one of the first installs and the clutch had problems disengauging all the way. i would put it in, especially since the instructions say to.

If you are using a resurfaced flywheel I would use the shim. I installed the shim in mine when I installed the x-pad and billet flywheel. The clutch pedal was way to high and would not engage completely. I ended up removing the trans the same night to take the shim back out.

Had some problems with my spec 3 it chattered really bad coming out of first and not as bad coming out of second. Had about 850 miles on it and it started slipping took the clutch pressure plate and flywheel out and sent it back to spec. The clutch looked really bad and Spec is taking their sweet *** time sending me a new one back.

...i had similar experience, lost two Spec3s....Spec will always argue driver error but they did replace 1st one and refunded for second...now running a RAM.

They need to change their policies, or else RAM will stomp out the Specs. I got my Spec only because I could afford it.
