loose 5/6 driven gear
I've pulled apart 4 t56s and on 3 of them the 5/6 driven gear was easily pulled off by hand. The 4th one required a huge amount of effort to pull off and get back on... it was also the highest mileage t56 of the four. Since I was converting 2 of the 3 from c5z to gto I did find that a new mainshaft made the fit tighter/better requiring it to be tapped on.
Does the mainshaft wear over time? Or did they start putting more metal in that area to make it fit better?
What usually needs replacing when the 5/6 driven gear is loose? The gear or the mainshaft (or both)?

The issue is the mainshafts in the t-56 is a couple thousandths too small. Over time that minute play wears on the splines. You will notice they wear into eachother. I'd say if over 20% of the spline thickness is gone it needs to be replaced. I had to replace the main and driven. I used a thickened mainshaft from TDP in texas. Great service from them.

Sometimes the mainshaft wears with not much wear to the gear. It's one of those "don't ask. just measure" situations.
I've tried basically everything in that thread. Unfortunately, I haven't had feedback from higher mile and higher hp owners on the builds. Yet. Because when a 2002 Camaro has well over 10 thousandths radius slop at 140,000 miles, you want to know what solutions look like in another 140,000.
