Default MGW Shifter Installed

Swapped out the old one in about an hour. Got to say, this is one of the best mods you can do to your car. Shifting is so much quicker, and more importantly, much more accurate. Going from 2-3 is like cocking a well oiled rifle. Gears click into place, almost like playing a video game. Shifter is still a bit stiff, so hope to break it in soon.

Couple questions though, I had to cut the opening of the 6 shift boot to make it fit, and now I can hear the gears whirring when I engage and disengage the clutch. Any pics of how you guys got your shift boot to fit?

What part did you have to cut? And are you talking about the leather shifter boot or the silicone type base boot that covers the base of the shifter?

And where did you buy yours?

I went from the original Hurst shifter in my SS to the MGW, and it was a night and day difference. Didn't have to cut or modify anything though

Yeah I didn't buy too much into the hype but decided to get one anyway. It took about 15 - 20 minutes of driving before I could really appreciate how much better the MGW is than my Hurst with a short stick. I ended up cutting the MGW stick at the notch and liked it even better. Only thing I had to get used to is getting into 6th sometimes it wants to spring over to 5th because it's so tight.

No cutting here either.

I had to cut the bottom boot that goes under the console to fit it over the shifter. Not needed but it does cut down a ton of road/drivetrain noise. Definitely a great upgrade.

Yes, you have to buy direct from MGW. George puts out the highest quality shifter you will find, bar none. His design is very different from every other shifter. As noted above, you may notice the shifter is a tad stiff after you first install it. After a few days of regular use it will loosen up a bit. Great shifter!

i just did an auto to t56 swap on my LT1. I went with the MGW as well. Its definitaly a stiff shifter. Im still getting used to it compared to my Toyota DD. Lol There is absolutely no slop in it at all. I don't know what a normal f-body shifter felt like so I can't compare that since this is my first. Feels pretty legit so far after about 80 miles of driving.

Yea I have been debating getting one myself, I have a Pro5.0 and no issues with it at all, I'm just wondering if there is a big difference between the two. Never shifted with a MGW before.

Hard to tell, I have never used the pro 5.0 and it is unlikely someone would have used both. It seems like you cant go wrong with either.

Seems like the consensus is on the MGW.
