Auto or 6 spd big power
i have a weekly driver 2000 ta w/ a 6.0 and f1 procharger making 650 rwhp w/ meth & tuned down with twin coolers 6 spd (trying to keep the power low until i can replace everything in drive line,i think it could make around 900 w/ fmic and smaller pulleys) and i broke some synchros and who knows what else. I just put in a Mcloeod rxt clutch and i just brock it in b4 this all happened, which was replaced bc the Master and slave went bad.i think the power is just traveling down the drive line and breaking everything that wont hold it which make sense . i dont go to the strip much now prob twice a year but as i get older im sure it will turn into more of a strip car.
Point is i think this is where i decide if im going to go auto and maybe stall it or buy a upgraded 6spd?? If you suggest switching to auto and you have switched from stick let me know what it takes to switch and how much of a pain in the *** it is??
Thanks guys
My car was equipped with a t56 from the factory. I have ran a lot of different setups, from n20 to boost via turbo. Car is a street car, that sees the track when I'm lucky enough to be able to go (a few times a year). With the turbo setup, the car was fun to drive (rear mount setup) but was quite laggy. After changing to a built auto (which didn't last long and blew up shortly after I traded) the car became a completely different animal, and was a low 11 second car all night long, at the expense of fuel economy, and a STRESS at the expense of fuel economy, it then cost double to drive the car everywhere.
Since then, I have upgraded the car to a TSP forged 408 and built RPM t56 trans, and relocated the turbo to the front, where it belongs. Car spools LIGHTNING fast, and is well into the 800 hp range now, with more room to grow, is an absolute blast to drive, and believe it or not, I got my fuel economy back compared to the stock ls1+boost+auto combo, and the 408+auto combo. having 6 forward gears and no "stall slip" adds up SO MUCH its insane.
I know some one with a similar build to mine, 402+blower+auto, and there is no comparison, my car moves much faster in every condition EXCEPT the hole shot. He is swapping to a six speed in his car as we speak, due to the difference in street-kick-assness.
If I were you, go with a built sixxer, it will make your car a lot more fun to drive, and still kick some major *** in every scenario when your driving on the street and interstate. It all boils down to what you want, and where you operate your car the MOST, street or strip.
Auto+Turbo= Thumbs Up
Manual+Blower=Thumbs Up
That is just my opinion for STREET use and badassery. I am NOT saying that auto and blower sucks *** or anything, I just personally like the two scenarios above better for street use bud.
Turbos and autos absolutely rock. Blowers and manuals are equally as cool. I have driven both, and the Auto+Blower combo is awesome for the track, but feels lackluster when punching it from any speed roll, and there is no doubt you will miss that successful "one-two" and "three-four" shift during a race whilst blowing the tires off in a huge cloud of smoke.
