Default Best T-56 Trans Fluid ?

I have a 96 z28 6 speed and once in awhile it pops out of 3rd gear once in a great while. It has the hurst white ball shifter which I think may not be engaging 3rd gear all the way? Is there a way to adjust it to shift better into 3rd?

And I heard people using amsoil trans fluid have had there transmissions start shifting way smoother after putting it in? Is this the best option for trans fluid for the t 56?

Popping out of gear is not a frictional issue. It is a mechanical issue. Either your syncro assembly isn't fully engaging and your fork pads are worn or fork is bent OR the teeth are just gone on either the ring or gear.

As for oil it's a very dangerous question for two reasons. One, it has been asked and answered hundred of times on here and two, people all have varrying results.

I've tried multiple part store ATF's with the upgraded carbon blocker rings and none of them were really great. Gave Redline ATF a try and it was MUCH better although not perfect. With a stock trans you have some paper blockers in there and they will react differently than carbon ones.

Give the amsoil a try. You might like it but it will probably still pop out of gear.

Is it alright to try amsoil synthetic in these transmissions or is conventional better. I heard that synthetic can cause certain parts to wear?

It depends on the synthetic. If you still have paper blocker rings I've heard royal purple actually breaks them down.

If you have carbon rings you can try just about anything until you find what works. Amsoil says that it's for the GM T-56 so it should be okay.

OP

the sticker on your trans says DEX 3......synthetic oils conflict with the paper blocker rings if that is what you still have. If not paper, Redline D4 is very good

also your 3rd gear problem....doubt it is fluid related. The 3-4 shift fork, stock, is aluminum. one of the most basic upgrades to the T56 is a steel 3-4 fork. syncros or fork pads could also be your issue

You could try and re-set your shift stops on your shifter if it has them....
