Cya later 2nd gear
Just threw out 2nd gear in my 00' Camaro. When I try to shift into second, it goes in fine, just when I let the clutch out it clicks back out back into neutral. Do you think that's just a synchro, fork, or the gear it self? What year did the viper gear come out for these trannys? Cars at the shop right now so I'm sure I'll find out sooner or later. But I'm just waiting anxiously and wanna see what everyone else thinks.

def not a synchro as once the shifter goes into gear the synchros job is done. anything after 00 IIRC should have the viper gear but the cause could be a worn gear, worn slider, broken fork pads, broken keys or bent fork... just have to tear it down and see

Okay, I brought my car to the shop, ended up being a few things actually. When I bought it 1-4 was screwed up. Turns out that the syncronizer assemblies were all screwed up, I'm getting a complete rebuild, bearings, synchros, sliders, forks, keys, etc. Total cost will be $1,830.00 Don't think I got ripped off to bad, since they sell for that much used.

$1830 with labor out the door sounds like a good deal. There are plenty of threads around here on basic and easy upgrades that should be done while the trans is out. Probably have paper blocking rings which should be replaced with carbon. Might also want to consider new clutch slave cylinders while the trans is apart. I'd go through those threads that discuss what's smart to do while your trans is getting rebuilt.
