Default T56 fill question

Just put a ls engine in my 69 with a t56 transmission out of a 2004 gto (new rebuild). I'm filling the transmission with dex II/III to break it in and change after 500 miles.
I have read to pull reverse grommet out on passenger side of tranny instead of fill plug to use as an indictor for full? There is a sticker right near the fill plug that says use dex III….do not remove fill plug. So i pulled the reverse grommet and proceeded to fill…almost 5 quarts and no oil is coming out of the grommet hole. Car is on a lift and close to level. I've read anywhere from 3 3/4 quarts to 4.8 quarts….so checking here to get proper fill instructions before i button things up.

Don't go through the reverse plug. If the trans is empty put 4 quarts in it through the shifter hole and you're good to go.

Thanks…i'm going to have to let some drain back out since i have about 4 3/4 of a quart in there. Guess i'll have to take out that fill plug that says don't remove
