Default Why do I hear this sound??

If I come to a stop, car is not in gear, the clutch peddal is out, sounds like a light rubbing sound from the tranny. When I push the peddal in, it goes away, is this the flywheel?? What would cause this sound??

Sounds like your throwout bearing. Mine's worn as well, but it makes more of an awkward noise on my car.
How long since your clutch has been changed?

Stock clutch.

Does it HAVE to be fixed? How does it break/wear down?

I thought the TO bearing shrieked like woman when the clutch was depressed?

What I remember is that it shrieks like woman when the clutch is out, and only shuts up when you put it in (also like a woman).

If you have an aftermarket shifter than the sound is normal.

uhhhhhh....I don't think so..........that sound is your worn throwout bearing. The type of shifter has nothing to do with it.

Not exactly. If it's a light wirring, almost rubbing sound. He's just hearing the flywheel. After I put my B&M on I could hear it. Same with every other car I've been in with an aftermarket shifter. Now if it's a shrieking sound or a rattle then it may be the throwout bearing.

Ya, tranny noise is usually emitted through aftermarket shifters. But, if you can hear the whirring sound outside underneath the car, then that is your throwout bearing, more than likely.

When the clutch is out and the trans is in neutral, the transmission gears are all spinning at the engine rpm. Sure you're gonna hear some noise. Add to that a big cam and the transmission will actually clunk at idle while its lopeing. Doesnt sound like a throwout bearing to me.

Same for me...light whirring sound with the Hurst Billet Plus. Still sounds that way after the new LS6 clutch and 2001 hydraulics.
