Default New shift **** fitment issues

I have a pro 5.0 shifter which has has the 16mm x 1.50. The new to me (used) ball that I purchased has threads about the size of a pencil making them way to small to fit my shifter. I assume the ball has an adapter inside of it so the previous person could use it with a smaller threaded shifter. Anyone have any clue how to get the adapter/reducer out of the shifter ball?
Ball looks to be identical to this: https://m.rickscamaros.com/camaro-shift-****-white-billiard-with-ss-logo-1967-2002.html

Looks like you'd need to loosen one of the nuts, then use something to temporarily attach the smaller adapter to the correct size pipe and twist it out.
