Default Do you run a Scattershield?

Hey guys, I've built my car up to the point were the next thing to get would be a scattershield. I go to the track maybe two times a summer and launch at 3.5k on ET Street bias plys with 6k power shifts. I Know there's a lot of manual trans guys that race their cars. I'm curious if you all run a scattershield or are thinking about one or nervous that you don't have one.
Thanks, Tom

It's definitely a good investment. I have seen broken bellhousings that cause even more damage. Not to mention I have seen some clutches go. Plenty of YouTube videos that will convince you its a good idea. Chances are you will never "need" it, but if you ever do, it will save your feet and vehicle damage. Those pieces go through e floor and even the hood!

I run a quicktime bellhousing. I like knowing myself and most of the car is safe if a clutch explosion ever happened. I launch the car at 6k plus so stuff can happen.

6500+ rpm launches on slicks here. I'm rather attached to my feet and prefer it to stay that way. I run a QuickTime in mine.

I recently put a Quicktime in my car too, it's definitely cheap insurance. After seeing pictures of cars being totaled when the clutch exploded and went up through the windshield, and pieces blowing through through the floorboard near the drivers feet, it was a no brainer for me. The Quicktime also comes with a steel plate that mounts between the block & bellhousing to prevent block damage if a clutch lets go. If your stock aluminum bellhousing is in good condition you can sell it in the classifieds for about $200. Food for thought.

I am thinking about getting one as well, are the easy to cut into and make breather holes for the clutch? Would that effect anything strength wise with it?

You can buy one for a clutch inspection hole/adjustment hole. It bolts on

I run a Mcleod scatter shield. Definitely nice knowing your feet are protected. If I were to buy another, I'd get the QuickTime.

A scatter-shield is always a good insurance mod, you can never be to safe. The Quicktime housing is a great unit.

Just bought a Quicktime scattershield and will be installing it before summer. My feet and car are worth the ~$500!

I'm not really sure at what level you should start to be concerned enough to get one

When you plan on going to the track often. Think 11.50 and under it's required for manual Trans cars. Of course it's never enforced.

BTW, the Quicktime fit my car perfectly. It required no modifications, no grinding, no cutting at all. I give it an A+ rating!

Did you not have problems trying to install 40mm length bolts in the upper trans to bell holes? I had to buy shorter bolts to get a better fit.

I bought ARP bolts for the bellhousing, clutch, & transmission but I don't remember how long they were. I bought a bunch, some were 25mm, some were 35mm, some were 40mm. I didn't attempt to use the stock bolts so I can't give any insight about that.

You have the part numbers on the bolts you used?

I used the Quicktime provided bolts for bellhousing to block. The T56 to the Quicktime, I used bolts from fastenal M10 X 1.5 x 35mm. 40mm is too long for the upper two holes, and looks silley long on the other holes

I voted no. My clutch and fly weigh 17lb. No need for one.

I would like one for mustang though. Spec lightened clutch in it.

HioSSilver, your response surprises me, do you really feel safe running those numbers without one? I'm sure you've seen the video 'death of a Trans Am'.
