I've used pro 5.0, B&M ripper, factory Hurst, and the MGW. Of the aftermarket, the MGW was my least favorite. It was nice and smooth, but I disliked the overall feel of the shifter, stick placement, and gate placement. It's all personal preference. Different horses for different courses. If I drag raced, or if my car was a daily, MGW may be at the top of my list. For the way I drive my car (road course HPDE), I have found better choices.

I use to leave a stop sign or red light every now and then in third myself but after seat time in my car it just don't happens no more. Mention in my older post here too about it being hard to get into reverse. May sound crazy but it seems if I press the clutch in twice it goes into reverse easier.

Did this forum really just censor out the term used for the handle at the top of a shifter? But yet I can say this -> :

I just find it downright hilarious that all you get for the better part of 3 years is all these threads on how much everyone loves their MGW shifter. Not in any of those thread does anyone have a bad thing to say about it, and now this thread all you get are people talking about how crappy they think it is and how they switched back to their stock Hurst shifter. Only on LS1tech.

Oh, and I agree. Some of you all need to clean the sand out of you know where, hit the damn gym, or better yet, get rid of your M6 and go automatic if you can't get the damn thing in 6th or reverse. Give me a break.

I find it hilarious when all the fanboys get butthurt because someone doesn't like a certain product. The like/dislike of a shifter's feel is an OPINION. There are plenty of us that don't miss shifts and go on merrily shifting our cars without an MGW.

I agree 100%. What I find funny is that there have been 3+ years of MGW shifter threads, and not one person came out of the wood-work to voice that they didn't like it. You would think with the multitude of thread related to the MGW shifter, or "what shifter should I buy" threads that there would have been some of this in them. I could give two ***** what anyone else thinks. I'm past that stage of my life caring what people think.

Well that's untrue. I've always disliked the MGW and have recommended other shifters in different threads. But thanks for telling me what shifter I like.

LS1Tech has become like a bunch of "sheeple". Either everyone bands together and promotes one product, or everyone bands together and bashes a product. It's most evident in how the "cam guru" has changed over time. Many years ago, Pat G was the "go to" guy who everyone and their mom recommended you go to for a cam. Now, that person has changed to Martin Smallwood. Most of the people who recommend a specific person or a certain product have never had any experience with that said person or said product.

Doesn't matter how good a product is, there will always be people that hate it.

I've read probably 100 threads discussing the best shifter you can get before I got my MGW and the only time people didn't like it was because it wasn't broken in. Out of the box it's horrible, as I found out. I'm guessing this is where most of the negative reviews come from. But drive it for a couple months to loosen it up and you'll see why it's the most popular aftermarket shifter available for these cars.

You realize you are doing exactly what you described here? You came into a thread where people were discussing why they didn't like the shifter and told people to hit the gym. I didn't see where you explained your previous experience with other aftermarket shifters. Nope, you just told people it's the best and they are wimps if they don't like it. Kind of sounds like blindly supporting a product to me. I listed the shifters I've used, and I explained what characteristics I didn't like regarding the MGW. I could go into further detail.I didn't trash the product, or anyone else's product.

So yeah, keep living in your dream world.

I'm giving my first hand experience with the shifter because I have it and I know how it is out of the box and how it is after it's broken in. I did my due diligence and did plenty of research before I bought an aftermarket shifter and am happy with my purchase.

Spend enough time in the SRK section and you'll see that everyone using the mgw never loses a race. Even the mustangs...

I had two cars with the Pro 5.0 and while its better than the stock Hurst, Im still not in love with them. I really liked the Billet + I put on my 92 T5 years ago, that felt like a HUGE upgrade. This one not so much. Im also having an issue with a strange noise being transmitted through the shifter in both cars, both with Pro 5.0. Have a used Billet + on the way to try but would also love to try an MGW some day.

Well I have had 3 different shifters and driven a few more. I still think the mgw is the best. No "sheeple" here as I've had mine before the 10 page threads started.

Stock: Sucked.... no 2 ways about it lol

Hurst: Drve ok huge improvement over stock but still felt a little sloppy. No real positive shift feel.

Pro 5.0: Drove fine but very notchy (on a buddys car) I never missed a gear with it though.

B&m: I HATED this shifter with a passion. It drove ok in normal traffic but I would miss gears at times because the throws were so long. Not to mention the angled stick if the shift was uncomfortable and awkward.

The mgw is stiff at first but...since the mgw I have never missed a gear. It practically finds 3rd on its own by simply pushing the thing up from 2nd no direction needed. The shifts are short and require some effort at WOT but thats with any aftermarket shifter. If you really wanna feel stiff try a pro5.0 with a short stick...

Hmmm...."broken in".

Imprecision is one of the complaints of the OE unit and the bases for aftermarket shifters.

Yet as designed the MGW shifter is too precise and requires wear to make it feel good?

Ironic.

Your point? Pretty much anything you bolt on your car needs to be broke in before it works properly.

Nah man, my FAB9 and Monster clutch are junk too since they needed a break-in period.

Its not all about the shifter, a lot of it is the hydraulics, clutch & condition of the synchros.
