Default throwout bearing can cause huge noise?

I have a 2001 Trans Am with the stock clutch, etc. My throwout bearing is gone causing a slight noise at idle and some during acceleration. But when i get on it I have a flutter noise that seems to come through the shifter, almost sounds like a header leak. The thing is I don't have headers so that rules it out. The car was checked for exhaust leaks, nothing. I'm in the process of gettting a new Ram clutch, flywheel, pressure plate and throwout bearing. But I'm just curious if a throwout bearing can cause this noise, its usually very apparent from 3500-5000 rpm's. Let me know, i hope replacing all this will cure my noise and have a nicer clutch set up.

Yep, they can make a ton of racket dpending on the situation. The usual symptom of a TO bearing failure is inability to shift.

When the bearing is worn out you will get the infamous "neutral gear rattle." Kill the engine with the tranny in neutral and the clutch pedal out. If you hear a racket then chances are the bearing is going bad.
