Default Hinson Motorsports or MGW shifter?

Having a hard time deciphering which short throw shifter I'd like to purchase. I haven't found much info about the Hinson on here, but I have the MGW. And the rule of thumb seems to be:

If you want a Pro 5.0, get the MGW. If you are thinking of upgrading from the 5.0, get the MGW.

I have driven cars with both the Hinson and the MGW. They both feel great (compared to my stock one, which probably isn't that shocking), but the Hinson is Jesus in a shifter. The springs and everything were absolute sex, and completely blows the MGW out of the water.

BUT, MGW is $209, and the Hinson is a whopping $350.

Hinson is amazing, but I'm not sure if it's $100+ amazing.

What say you? Bite the bullet for something that could make an idiot a driver mod, or the other?

I have a MGW in my 01 TA and recently bought a Hinson for my 89. I haven't put it in yet, but since everyone seems to say it's a better shifter, I spent the extra money on it.

What's $140 over the time span you're gonna own the car? If you've shifted both and liked the Hinson better, just get it and be done with it.

The McLeod is cheaper too, and visually looks identical to the Hinson

Too many options...and too many opinions lol

McLeod. Pretty much same as Hinson. I paid like 230 for mine with a UMI stick from tick performance.

I have beat the ever living **** out of a T56 with an MGW. I do not, and can not comprehend how any other shifter could be better. I COULD NOT MISS A SHIFT.

Owned a pro 5.0, hurst billet plus, stock hurst, and an MGW, MGW rapes the competition.

But have you tried the Hinson? I've been looking into this as well since mine has a worn out B&M Ripper that I would like to replace. The general consensus seems to be that MGW is amazing, and Hinson is BETTER.

That price tag though..........

In for opinions.

I had the factory Hurst, Pro 5.0, Hurst Billet Plus, MGW, and the McLeod. I like the McLeod way better. Considering it and the Hinson are practically the same, I think you'd like Hinson or McLeod style of shifter better.

With my MGW reverse was a bitch to get into. Not with the McLeod. Plus it uses a Belleville washer stack so the centering mechanism won't wear out like a spring will.

I can't speak for the Hinson Motorsports shifter, but I don't see how it can get any better than a MGW. I upgraded to a MGW about a year ago, and it was probably the single best modification I've done to my car.

Exactly. I do not understand how the Hinson could leap and bound past the MGW ??

The MGW does everything I need it to do and more. I see no need to pay more for a product when the one I have is perfect to me.

MGW has been the standard for as long as Ive been active on the forum. It was always my plan to get one but with Hinson coming out recently many have sworn by it. I dont understand how it could be $140 better than an MGW but if it's worth it I don't mind ponying up the cash. Still would really love to hear from people who had an MGW and recently switched.

Unless someone has had a MGW in their car, sold the car & bought one with the Hinson, it isn't going to happen.
Anyone with the MGW like myself ain't going to swap it out for no good reason

lol, well it's a long thread, but if you read it, a few guys say they switched.

I'm not gonna switch out my MGW, but for the car that needed a new shifter, I didn't mind spending extra for one people claim is better.
