What's the deal with 3rd gear?

I just sent my transmission off to Ls1Joe. My tranny was kicking out of 3rd and not coming out of fourth and that happened all at once while I was ripping threw the gears. I have the stock hurst shifter and I'm going to get a diff. one now also
