Growling noise while in gear

Growling noise while in gear
I have a viper shaft t56 with about 3k miles since build. Lately, it's been making an odd noise and I'm trying to determine if this is a clutch issue or an internal trans issue.
I'm running a new SPEC 3+ with a freshly machined SPEC steel flywheel.
It makes the noise under the following conditions:
While coasting to a stop with the trans in gear with the clutch pushed in.
It does not make the noise when in neutral.
I can stop the noise by placing the trans in neutral and letting the clutch out
It will continue If I put it back in gear while moving with the clutch pushed in
Under no circumstances will it make noise with the clutch engaged.
The noise sounds like a bad throwout bearing but its not acting like a typical throwout bearing issue. Anyone got any ideas?

Does it make a noise with clutch pedal down, car in any gear and vehicle stopped ?
ie there will be no moving parts in the trans at this point.
Although from your description, release bearing does sound likely.

Google neutral gear rollover noise/rattle? Pretty common after installing a fresh clutch and/or engine upgrade. Every manual trans has the issue though most are subdued enough they aren't easily audible. Engine harmonics are passed into the transmission when it's unloaded. Should disappear once above 1800-2500 rpm. Though, wouldn't expect this to be intermittent.

The noise came back. I noticed some new things. If I'm at a dead stop, I cant push in the clutch and the noise comes back if I put it in a higher gear like 3rd or 4th but goes away slowly if I put it back in neutral with the clutch still pushed in. It goes away immediately when i let the clutch out in neutral.
I'm pretty sure its the pilot bearing at this point but I'm really hoping I don't have to pull the trans again. I'm running GM Syncromesh with carbon sycros. Any chance that could be the issue?

Bronze pilot bushings suck. I personally never use them over a quality roller bearing with some extra high temp grease pushed into the rollers.

It really shouldnt make any odds one way or the other unless you spend shitloads of time with your foot pressed on the clutch
Which is just very bad driving, so dont do it.

Did it sound like this. My t56 doing the same thing. Also. I can rev it with the car in gear clutch down. Makes same noise and car starts to move. Shop said trans is bad. Clutch only has 7k miles on it
