Shifting question
#3
More a personal preference as to what feels right to each person.
Maybe practice shifts with engine off using a few different grip styles until you find the grip that best suits your **** style and hand
I have a ball **** so basically put my hand "over" it using more my fingers to "pull" back to 2nd and more my "palm" pushing and shifting away & up to 3rd and using more my fingers pulling straight back for 4th

There are some good videos about this on line. "Ranger" has a video out on shifting his record setting stock Corvette. There is lots of good info on his site +related links on staging, drag racing, burnouts, clutch care, etc.

On 1st and 2nd shifts - keep right hand on right side of shifter. This helps to prevent a 1 to 4 missed shift.
On 3rd shifts - Use base of hand/palm and push lightly straight forward towards radio with a mostly open hand.
On 4th shifts - Use fingers cupped, with a light touch, to pull straight back.
On 5th shifts - Keep hand on left side of shifter to prevent finding 3rd by mistake.
On 6th shifts - Keep hand on left side of shifter to prevent finding 4th by mistake.
Most people will just grab the shifter handle with a tight fist. Missed shifts result with a death grip. The tension in the hand/arm will send you all over the place.
