Default 5th gear question... 6th seems fine

I've done some searching and reading, but most problems I've seen tend to involve 6th...
So hear goes...

Last night I went to the local 1/8th, made a few passes, it was humid... 8.77 @ 83.xx anyways on my last pass I launched a little hard, spun and it started wheel hop, I let out and pedaled it, it had some hop left to it and then I heard a pop, I wasn't near WOT, and just coasted through the lights... Nonething seemed wrong, when to leave, went through the gears like normal driving, went into 5th like normal but it didn't engage. It sounds like its not going into gear fully, like the shift fork is bent, could that be my problem? It sounds like it just doesn't want to mesh together....

Any help would be appreciated....

While I'm at it, should I replace the 3-4 fork, or is it OK since its the 01 tranny??

Thanks again

but if the fork was fucked wouldn't it NOT go into 6th?

guessing you mean to do that on the car..... hrmmmm should be fun....

Also it seems more like its the gears stripped out or something... it goes into the 5th position like normal, doesnt pop out, just chatters and grinds when there....

thanks again

Arrow

It must be done out of car.

Here's a general rule: forks don't bend but about .000000000000000000000001% of the time that people think they do. Quit reading everyone talking about "I bent my forks " and believing it.

yeah he's right people don't really bend forks if anything they break in half. Its probably just the keys.

I can only tell you how much it would run you if you brought it to me. And also, an estimate is an estimate. Sometimes 5-6 requires next to nothing. Sometimes it requires everything.

When you go to a shoppe, here's what happens:

You take it to them for something simple. It's an automatic. They have any part of it off, and they tell you "oh man, this thing is wasted. It needs a full rebuild."

Or, they may not want to do anything without going through the whole box becuase they might get blamed for 2nd gear when all they did was 5th/6th.

Use your phone, tell them 5th/6th needs gone through, and get an estimate.
