Finally someone with the same problem as me, I did the drill mod, new slave, new master and rebuilt tranny from a buddy who knew what he was doing and I still am getting a grind, I hope someone has an answer for both our sakes!

That happens with me too. I need a new clutch, but I've also been told it may be my syncros. What's involved with synching the syncros???
Easy, hard, expensive, cheap?

The syncro's from GM are good but can't handle the high RPM shifting. I shift very hard at very hign RPM! I am on my 4th set of syncro's now. You can get a carbon blocker kit from Futural for about $200.00. The problem is to replace them you need to tear the tranny down. It costs me about $400.00 to rebuild it everytime I do this. You can upgrade to steel forks as well. The 3 to 4th fork is about $50.00. I hope this helps..

I spoke to a Tranny specialty shop today that builds upgraded T-56's. They said that the blockers can go very easily. If you ever miss a shift, power shift at a high RPM or grind it into a gear you can mess the blockers up. 2001 and 2002 GM's all have the carbon blocker rings now. The parts are around $200.00 plus whatever someone would charge to tear down and rebuild the tranny.

Gonna do this next week, I ordered parts from D&D.

Labor for the rebuild will be $300 with a very experienced person.

that's who I spoke to on the phone was D&D. They were so helpful. Didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. The parts are very reasonable. They are good to talk to though, some of our cars already have SOME upgraded parts in them.

The previous owner of my car said this happened to him. The dealer said it was a common problem, and usually doesnt fix it, but he was friends with the manager so they replaced the syncros under warrenty.

Me too. When I sold my 1998 WS6 in 2000, she already had 68,000 miles, and not a problem with the trans internals. Of course, I replaced the slave cylinder at 60,000 miles, but the shop said the trans checked out ok, and wouldn't even change the clutch. GM should be accountable for all the crappy parts they stick us with. You shouldn't have to be friends with a manager to get something replaced.
