Reverse lock out solenoid
Has anyone removed the reverse lock out solenoid on the t56? Do you really need it? It hits the tunnel in my car and would help if it could be removed with out issues.

You don't need it until you are traveling at 70 mph and accidentally shift into reverse instead of 5th gear...
Here's a thread of someone with a similar issue. I'm not sure of what this actually accomplished. Maybe it's a manual switch, now? https://ls1tech.com/forums/manual-tr...-solenoid.html

I removed the reverse lockout probably 8 years ago. I have never hit reverse, then again I never hit reverse in my old 3 speed, 4 speed, or 5 speed either.
I used a plug from an electrical box with a rubber seal to seal the hole. Works perfect.

Muncie 4 speed R was up and to left. Basically you never FU shifting 1-4 and buzzing R
The T56....without RLO you can buzz (read grind gears) up shifting into 5th. Yes some have the "feel" down and don't but in aggressive shifting situations your 100% attention may be on other aspects of driving
I had some tunnel conflict when I swapped from A4 to T56 with the RLO....just used a small ball end hammer to "massage" the tunnel enough for clearance. No big deal at all

My old 78 Trans Am has a B/W 4 speed that had reverse next to third. A sloppy shifter with worn bushing could easily put you in reverse instead of 3rd. I also had a 1977 Olds Starfire that had a 3 speed stick. Reverse was actually where 4th would have been. That was dangerous to somebody thinking they would shift into 4th.
