Default Upper shift boot attachment??

I'm about to replace my shift boot and was just curious if there is supposed to be a rubber ring, or plastic ring that the top of the shift boot attaches to under the shift ****? I ordered the boot off of Ebay and all it came with was a zip-tie to use.

I bought one of those off of Hawks, it was plastic though. I'm referring to the top most part of the boot, where it attaches to the shift stick, directly under the handle.

No, there's nothing at th top. The stock shifter had a bent stick that held it up.
