Default Shifter installation problem! Help!

So, I went to install my new Pro 5.0 and ran into a problem. The origional owner of my car installed a Kirban shifter. Well, when after I unscrewed the 7 screws securing the boot down, I went to lift it up and it wouldn't budge. Apparently the guy had put some kind of sealant on it. Its on there good and I don't know what to do. Let me know if you guys have any suggestions. Thanks,

Nick

Ge an exacto knife and just cut underneath, not through, the boot. A little extra gasket on there won't hurt a damn thing.

Ok, is that boot supposed to be sealed down though? I didn't think it was.

The boot usually sticks on there pretty well, both my f-bodies had it pretty much stuck down. I used the end of a screwdriver and pried up. Did the same thing with the shifter itself (but bigger screwdriver).
