Default New t56 source

Dont want to roll the dice on a $1500 used setup. I see the t56 magnum is 3300-3500 new? Will it bolt right in on an fbody or will it need something? Cant recall if the tailshaft is different or not. See Tick offering something for almost 5k for new. Curious if anyone has gone down either route.

I ordered my Magnum from D&D and it was like $5k for the trans converted to drop in my 4th gen (front plate and tail housing, and probably output shaft), McCloud RXT clutch, slip yoke, and shipping.

Are you talking about the T56 Magnum that's in the catalog? I read where someone had done this but modifications had to be made to the car and drive line to work.

i saw it 3995 for a drop in. Not a bad price w clutch and slip yoke. Any of your other parts need to change. I assume slave/master not impacted?

Oh, I got a slave with that but it's nothing special. I ordered a Mcleod master later as I'm building the whole car up. The input splines are different than stock so you have to change the clutch, if I remember right. I had the trim a chunk on the case when I switched to a BMR cross member. That is the only other special note I can think of.

I got my F converted Magnum from Joe at D&D a few weeks ago ( havent driven it yet though )

For most part a simply bolt in...however

I run a Quicktime steel bellhousing, and this caused problems. The front face of the Magnum has castings for oilways in the front plate which protrude beyond the flange face. Needless to say the large flat flange on the QT fouled these !

So lots of cutting and grinding was needed to clearance the BH to allow the new Magnum to bolt up to it
Also, the front plate on the Magnum has 1 bolt bole in a different location. So you'll either lose this, or in my case I was able to drill/tap the QT BH to allow me to add this fixing.

How could I get the wrong one when I've had it for 10 years ?

I'm using the same one I've always had which fits the FBody T56 just fine. Just not the Magnum obviously unless it's cut out like your new one.

I ordered the bell for the car and D&D change the front plate and rear extension to match the car.
