Hello. I just bought a bare LS1 with no flywheel.
I'll be putting on a new flywheel/clutch but from reading the shop manual it seems that the stock flywheels are involved in balancing the rotating assembly.
Since I don't know how the stock flywheel is balanced, and aftermarket flywheels/clutches come pre-balanced (correct?), am I going to be stuck with an unbalanced rotating assembly? If so, what can be done to correct it?
Thanks
Ben

Alright...I did a search and there is a bit of info for anyone that cares-
it seems like the weights in the flywheel are strictly for balancing the flywheel as opposed to completing the balance of the entire rotating assembly.
This is supported by the fact that the LS1 flexplates don't have any balancing.
Correct me if I'm wrong...

I am with you Ben. The LS1 is internally balanced so any weights on the flywheel (mine had none) would have been when the factory pressure plate and flywheel were balanced. There are those that say that in the early LS1 model years that the weights did compensate for differences in engines and they recommend transferring these weights to the new flywheel but I disagree. I highly recommend having the new clutch and flywheel zero balanced as a unit to ensure there are no balance problems after putting it in even if the manufacturer(s) says they are zero balanced individually.
