Both my old one and the new one are very tough grade 80 steel.
rofl no record of this problem ever happening, sort of like the answer i was told by midwest chassis about their 4 channel rears not working, but then giving advice on how to possibly fix it lol.

New spacer plate was warped some too. Not as much as the old one, but enough to be worried about. Decided to cut the plate to make sure there was no interference this time. I know I'll lose some protection, but there isn't really much protection to begin with the LS version. Other plates almost entirely cover the motor, but not on this one.

Thats what I would have done too, a little trim and go. Your right too that the block saver plate isn't doing much saving in the LS style but the bell is WELL worth the peace of mind to me. I had issues with my Mcleod on my BBC with regards to spacing that I did not check prior to installation that caused me grief so before I installed the Qucktime I took some detailed measurements. Heres some pics to show how accurate the fitment is. I've been very pleased with mine, numerous clutches, ten years later and all good. About 1/4mm difference between the two in stack height with the block saver plate. I dont think removing it will be wise without using a spacer to make up the difference

Not really, I placed the new bell over the stocker and compared closely and it all looked good so I stuffed it in and havent had any vibes or premature wear. Maybe I got lucky? I've been happy with it.

Quick update. The new transmission and clutch have been back in for a few weeks now with the trimmed spacer plate. With spacer, bell, and clutch assembly all bolted up the A measurement was 2.104". The B measurement on the slave was 1.938". So 2.104" - 1.938" = 0.166" which was right in the sweet spot.

The thinnest slave shim Tick sells is 0.055" so that would made it 0.111" which probably would have worked too, but it's smaller than the recommend minimum of 0.125" to account for clutch wear. And there will be lots of clutch wear.

Oh yeah. Here's some pictures of the old plate after I cleaned it up a bit. I used this as a pattern to cut the new one.

Notice the hot spots formed on the other side of the plate.
